This collaborative identity was created by Andrew Gen and Christopher Shults. Tropical Salvage is a brand of furniture that is based in Portland, Oregon. It makes furniture from salvaged wood from Indonesia. Tropical Salvage believes in a sustainable business model, that is why they use beautiful salvaged wood that would otherwise be wasted. The Tropical Salvage logo represents two communities working together to make a unique product. This visual identity creates a system in which icons can be used in tandem in order to create multiple layers of meaning. The icons were designed to work with the 'infinity' icon and represent different values that the brand represents including sustainability, generations, fair trade, and coexistence, not just with people, but with the environment as well. This identity was presented to the owner of Tropical Salvage and are working with him to create a successful rebrand. Currently, Chris and I are reworking some elements to better suit the brand image including typeface, tags, signage, other print deliverables, ad commercials, and interior design of the retail space.
